Area info

Marbella is an important tourist resort on the Costa del Sol; it has an exclusive feel and a large number of golf courses in the surroundings. As a result, it attracts well-heeled tourists from all over the world and especially from Northern Europe and the Middle East.

In Marbella there is a variety of shops, restaurants, discotheques and bars. Marbella's famous port Puerto Banús is outside the center itself, which also has a port, although not as famous.

There are two airports that are located roughly the same distance: Malaga Airport is a large airport that suits most people, but for trips to the UK or Madrid, Gibraltar Airport is an option.

The city has had different names throughout history, Salduba during Roman times, Marbil-la when the Arabs ruled, and then renamed Marbella by the Catholic monarchs in 1485.

Housing in the Marbella area has since the crisis in 2008 recovered stronger than the rest of Spain thanks to the multinational cross-section of property owners.] The often cash-rich international owners are not affected in the early stages by property prices on the local market, which means that housing prices maintain a more even level, with a decline of only 20% in comparison with the rest of Spain which lost up to 50% during the 2008 crisis. In the Marbella area there are residents of 150 different nationalities.
