Fuengirola is a Spanish municipality and city in the province of Málaga and the region of Andalusia located 30 km from the city of Málaga. It covers 10 km² and has 82,585 inhabitants (2021).[2] The municipality borders in the east with Benalmádena and in the north and west with Mijas due south lies the Mediterranean Sea. The A-7 motorway passes by Fuengirola. The municipality of Las Lagunas in Mijas is completely built up with Fuengirola, the two municipalities were from the beginning one municipality that was divided in May 1841.
Fuengirola, which was originally a small fishing village, is now almost completely adapted and built around tourism. Both the Spaniards themselves and many other Europeans have holiday homes here. Fuengirola is also the center of the Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish population along the Costa del Sol. Here you can find the Swedish School, the Church of Sweden, the Scandinavian Tourist Church and the Spanish Nordic Society and more.
The city has an 8 km beach strip and the promenade is the longest on the entire coast. Along the promenade are many of the city's bars and restaurants and there is also a marina with 330 berths. The city also has a fishing port with great importance for the city's economy. Fuengirola has the only zoo on the Spanish coast, Bioparc Fuengirola. The city also has a historic bullring.
