Area guide San Javier

Area info

Santiago de la Ribera is a beautiful coastal town and one of the larger resorts located on the inner coast of the Mar Menor. It is only a 30 minute drive from the new Region of Murcia International Airport and approximately 50 minutes from Alicante International Airport.

The town began life as a small fishing village and has grown into a cosmopolitan seaside resort that attracts visitors from all over Europe. It has a long, picturesque, palm-lined promenade that runs several kilometers north towards the nearby resort of Lo Pagan. The promenade offers golden sandy beaches and has plenty of children's playgrounds and chiringuitos (beach bars) along its entire length. From the marina here you can also take a boat trip around the calm waters of the Mar Menor or a ferry across to the Tomas Maestre Marina located on the La Manga Strip on the opposite side of the bay. There are shops, bars, restaurants located by the sea and in the center and for night owls there is a good selection of music bars and discotheques that stay open until the wee hours during the summer. This is a very picturesque and unspoiled Spanish seaside resort with something to offer for all ages and interests.

Santiago De La Ribera is also home to Spain's version of the Red Arrows, the Patrulla Águilas (Eagles Patrol), which can regularly be seen training across San Javier and Santiago De La Ribera and out across the Mar Menor. San Javier is located approximately 2 km inland and is the largest town to which the coastal area of Santiago De La Ribera is directly connected. In the center of San Javier you will find a lively, car-free shopping center with a picturesque church square surrounded by bars and restaurants in the center. There is a weekly market every Thursday morning and one in Santiago De La Ribera every Wednesday.

San Javier also has a brand new out of town store and a large indoor shopping center and leisure complex which has a multi-screen cinema, bowling center and many high street fashion stores, electronics stores and a Carrefour supermarket. San Javier also has many great furniture stores, including Spain's first DFS, a Decathlon sports store, a huge public sports complex and even an Island Overseas supermarket!

The city also hosts one of Spain's best annual jazz festivals, attracting major artists and fans from all over the world.

Property in this area is still great value for money and we have a number of fantastic new developments with stylish new apartments, semi-detached houses and luxury detached villas many within walking distance of the beach and town centres.
